The evergreen lychee tree which can get up to 20-meter-high originally comes from the southern provinces of China, but is now cultivated worldwide in the subtropics. Its red fruit, the lychee (Litchi chinensis), has a white, sweetish fruit pulp that is reminiscent of rosewater in its aroma and taste. Lychees are very low in calories and rich in vitamin C (around 100g of the fruit cover the recommended daily dosage). "Anyone who once tastes a lychee will only be happy again with the next one" is a saying in China, the original home of the lychee.
