Unlike the cashew nut, the yellow-red “apple” of the cashew tree (Anacardium occidentale L.), with its astonishing bittersweet aroma and unique taste, is still largely a secret in Europe. It is rich in vitamin C as well as a healthy natural source of vitamins A and B6, iron and potassium. Like açaí, the cashew-apple has an unusually high antioxidant capacity due to its high polyphenol content (and its high amount of vitamin C).
