Cupuaçu - also known as ‘large-flowered cocoa’ - originates from the lowland rainforest around the Amazon in Brazil. The relatively small cupuaçu trees grow in the shade of larger trees and belong to the mallow family.

Similar to cocoa, cupuaçu has a tart, aromatic, white flesh, which is as impressive for its unique flavour as it is for its valuable ingredients. Cupuaçu is rich in vitamin C and naturally supplies our body with potassium, vitamin A, vitamin B6 and fibre, among other things.

The tart, flavoursome fruit puree is often used in South America in soft drinks, jams, ice creams and the like. If you mix the frozen fruit puree fresh with a neutral fruit juice or water, you get a vitamin-rich and unusual smoothie.

We source our cupuaçu fruit puree from a co-operative in the north-east of Brazil.
